各位親愛的家長及同學：

Dear parents and students,

還記得上年農曆新年開始就開始戴口罩的生活，一轉眼已是一年。鼠年令全球的人的生活模式改變了，當中有好的，也有不好的改變，希望踏進牛年後，疫情可以改善過來，大家可以回復正常的生活模式，各行各業的人可以如常工作。雖然未能復課，但學校會繼續努力，為我們的學生及家長提供適切的支援，希望維持學生的學業水平。

I remember last Lunar New Year was when we started to wear masks every day. It’s already been a year! The Year of the Rat transformed the way people live globally. There were good changes and bad changes, too. I hope that in the Year of the Ox, the situation of the epidemic can be improved, and everybody can return to normal life; people from all walks of life can work as normal. Despite not having full class resumption, our school will continue to work hard to provide support for our students and parents in order to maintain our students’ level of attainment.

在二月初，我們分別舉行了一、二年級家長英語學堂，目的是希望家長在網上課堂中，家長能了解英文課程大綱，從而在家協助學童學習，促進家校合作。事實上，這一次的活動是延續上學期一年級的「英語學堂」，由於家長反應十分正面，所以我們決定延至二年級。課堂上，家長們戰戰競競的，嘗試回答老師所提出的問題，他們更有一些簡單的「功課」需要完成，令他們真正「重拾書包」。

At the beginning of February, we had P.1 and P.2 English Lesson Seminar for Parents. The aim of these seminars was to enable parents to know more about the English Subject curriculum, thus parents can assist students to learn; therefore, home-school cooperation is enhanced. Actually, this event was extended from the English Lesson Seminar for P.1 last semester. As parents gave positive feedback, we decided to extend this to P.2. During the seminar, parents focused meticulously. They tried to answer the questions asked by teachers, and they even had some simple “homework” to complete. Parents truly went “back to school”!

作為校長，我覺得除了辦好學校外，也有社會責任，要為社會服務。今年我再一次被香港教育大學邀請，擔任「燃亮專業—香港教育大學啟導計劃」的導師，協助修讀教育的準老師，了解學校的運作。由於疫情關係，我們多以網上作研習。在新年放假前，我邀請兩位學員到校參觀，由不同的老師介紹學校，更邀請他們參與我們的會議，好讓他們真正了解學校的運作。希望我們的小小分享，能為香港教育界出一分力，培養更多優秀的老師。

As the Principal, I believe apart from running the school well, I also have social responsibility to serve our society. This year, I was yet again invited by The Education University of Hong Kong to be the mentor for “Enlightening Professionals - EdUHK Mentorship Scheme”. In the scheme, I assisted prospective teachers to understand the operations of schools. Due to the coronavirus, we mainly studied online. Before the Lunar New Year holidays, I invited two students to visit our school. Various teachers gave a tour of our school and we invited them to take part in our meetings to enable them to understand the operations of our school. I hope that our sharing can contribute a little something to the Hong Kong education sector, and foster more outstanding teachers.

今年的中國文化日改為網上進行。雖然學生沒有上學，但老師也沒有怠慢。他們不單為學生準備了一個福袋，內藏文化日所需的物品，更準備了多條有關中國文化的短片。而最令人期待的是本年度LTY賀歲宣傳短片，老師們以不同組合、穿上新年服飾，邊唱邊跳去完成拍攝，我更要粉墨登場，以「財神」造型示人。我們於二月九日上午，齊集禮堂觀看「LTY賀歲片」首映禮。欣賞過後，大家也自豪在有限的資源下，同事們能製作如此有水準之作，在這疫情中，為學生及家長送上一份溫暖的祝福。影片自當天上載至YouTube至今，已經約有九百個點擊率，謝謝有家的支持。我們相信範式轉移，不單在學習上出現，學校的宣傳也應從不同的渠道向持分者，甚至外界作交代及推廣，我們會繼續努力發展。

This year, our Chinese Culture Day took place online. Although students didn’t come to school, our teachers didn’t neglect this special event. Not only did our teachers prepare goody bags containing items required for Chinese Culture Day for our students, they also prepared a range of videos about Chinese culture. The most exciting thing was our LTY Lunar New Year promotional video. Different groups of teachers wore traditional New Year clothes while singing and dancing. Even I dressed up and went on stage as the God of Wealth. On the morning of 9 February, we watched the premiere of our LTY Lunar New Year video in the school hall. After watching, everyone was proud of the excellent production when we had limited resources. During the epidemic, we hope that we brought warm blessings to students and parents. Since the day our video was uploaded to YouTube, it already has 900 views. Thank you for your support! We believe a paradigm shift doesn’t solely occur in education, we should also promote and share about our school to stakeholders and others through different methods. We will continue to work hard!

今年我們參與了教育局小學校本課程發展組的「校本支援」計劃，計劃以四年級為試點，製作不同的單元設計，效果不俗。故在二月二十四日下午，教育局邀請我及本校英文科組作出分享，內容有關「校本英文課程設計配合戲劇教育的實踐」，當天參加者約有60人，十分熱鬧,大家也十分投入。回想起在10年前，我有幸借調到小學校本課程發展組，前往內地推廣英語教學。由於我當時剛完成「戲劇教育」的碩士學位，所以就以戲劇元素加入英語學習，令學生易於投入學習及運用。到了「劉德容」後，我覺得我們的學生很適合運用戲劇教學，因此在學校大力推廣戲劇教學。希望學校的英語教學發展日添成熟，多令學生喜歡及投入學習英文。

This year, we participated in the School-based Support Programme of the EDB School-based Curriculum Development (Primary Section). The programme focuses on P.4, and various modules are designed. It produced a good result. In the afternoon of 24 February, the Education Bureau invited me and our school’s English subject team to do a presentation sharing about “School-based English Subject Curriculum Design Incorporated with Drama-In-Education”. There were approximately 60 participants on the day. It was very lively and everyone was enthusiastic! Thinking back to 10 years ago, I was fortunate to have been seconded to School-based Curriculum Development (Primary Section) to promote English language learning in the mainland. At the time, as I had recently completed my Master’s degree in “Drama-In-Education”, hence I added drama elements into English language learning, enabling students to be more engaged in their learning and application of knowledge. Since arriving at LTY, I have observed that using Drama-In-Education is very suitable for our students; therefore, I’ve been promoting it at our school. Hope that the development of our English language teaching will become more mature gradually and I hope that our students enjoy learning English.

疫情已經維持一年多，我們每天也盼着同學們回校上課，回復正常生活。相信我們要多等一會兒，但我們會盡力將學校「打扮」得漂漂亮亮來歡迎大家，你們找到學校漂亮之處嗎？

One year since the start of the epidemic, we have been looking forward to seeing students back at school every day, and return to normal life. I believe we need to wait a little while longer but, in the meantime, we will do our best to make our school look beautiful, and welcome you all. Can you find what’s beautiful about our school?

轉眼間，我在LTY已經工作了兩年半了，希望大家也見到及感受到我們不斷進步，我們會繼續努力。不知不覺已經出版了30期校長的話，我覺得在牛年應改一下名字。改用甚麼名字呢？我每月也會抽空寫一下「校長的話」，與大家細說學校的發展，就好像我每月也喁喁細語地向各持分者交待，跟大家「容容」細語；而校園內種植了很多花草樹木，在停車場那邊，更有一棵屹立了三十年，與劉德容一起成長的榕樹，希望有一天可以與大家在樹下乘涼野餐，聽着蟬聲，看着榕樹的美髯（它的氣根），令人心曠神怡。這棵大榕樹正守護着「劉德容」。因此，由今月開始，校長的話將改為「容容細語校長話」。

In the blink of an eye, I have already worked at LTY for two and a half years. While I hope that you can all see and feel our continuous improvement, we will keep on working diligently. Unknowingly, 30 issues of Message from the Principal have been published already. I think it’s time to change the Chinese name of this section in the Year of the Ox. What shall I change it to? Every month, I take time to write a “Message from the Principal” to tell you, in detail, about the development of our school. It’s like I’m speaking and explaining whisperously to our stakeholders, hence the new name “Principal Chan whispers under a banyan”. Furthermore, we have planted a variety of plants in our school grounds, and in the car park area, there is a banyan that has been standing tall for 30 years. It has grown up with LTY. I hope that one day I can have a picnic with everyone in the shade while listening to the calls of the cicadas and admiring the beautiful beard of the banyan tree (its aerial roots). How refreshing it would be! This enormous banyan is the guardian of LTY. Therefore, from today onwards, “Message from the Principal” will have “容容細語校長話” as its new Chinese name.
